UPDATE: According to Collider, Robbie’s Dreamland director, Miles Joris-Peyrafitte, is set to helm the film, with Robbie likely to star.
Well, Margot Robbie certainly has a type when it comes to comic book characters.
Coming off reprising Harley Quinn in Gotham City Sirens, Robbie is now apparently looking to again dive into crude, violent, over-sexualized, hair-dye-loving antiheroism with a new adaptation of Tank Girl.
Details are slim, but the news comes straight from Tank Girl co-creator Alan Martin, who yesterday tweeted (via), “Just heard that Margot Robbie’s company have optioned rights from MGM to make a new Tank Girl movie – now several months into development. [Co-creator Jamie Hewlett and I] haven’t been contacted by any of the parties involved with the project, so not sure if there will be any input from the original creators.”
Tank Girl was first and last brought to screens in 1995 with a box office bomb that saw Lori Petty in the title role, Ice-T as a mutant kangaroo, and Iggy Pop as a pedophile named Rat Face. In other words, this has both a very low and extremely high precedent to match.
