Olivia Wilde’s Superbad arrives in the Booksmart trailer

It’s been a consistently solid few years for awkward teenage girls coming of age on the big screen. We’ve had Lady Bird, Edge of Seventeen, Eighth Grade, Edge of Seventeen with a Robot Car, and now, in her directorial debut, Olivia Wilde brings us Booksmart.

Leaning closer to Judd Apatow’s raunchy Superbad than its aforementioned peers, the film sees Beanie Feldstein (already of Lady Bird) and Justified’s Kaitlyn Dever as a couple high school outcasts who, with graduation nearing, are ready to finally ditch their straight-laced, straight A-earning ways to run wild. Also like an Apatow, the supporting cast is stacked with comedy ringers and some parents that would make for a bang-up This is 40 spin-off: Will Forte and Lisa Kudrow play that couple, with Mike O’Brien and Wilde’s partner, Jason Sudeikis, rounding things out.

Booksmart hits theaters May 24.
