Sort of a River’s Edge by way of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, The Death of Dick Long is the latest from Daniel Scheinert—one half of the Daniels directing duo that gave us the sublimely bizarre Swiss Army Man.
The film sees a trio of real redneck shitkickers having a night of “getting weird” in ways that are actually fairly common in rural America: shotgunning Natty Lights, setting off fireworks in dangerously close proximities, and shooting guns at spray paint cans and beer bottles. As is so often the case, those actions lead to someone in the ER—or in this case, tossed out of an old station wagon in front of the ER. Dick dies, and his old friends Zeke and Earl are left bumbling to cover up their involvement.
Also, the titular name kind of sounds like it’s talking about a lengthy penis, so that’s maybe something. We’ll find out whether the dong lives up to its namesake when The Death of Dick Long hits theaters September 27.
