Dark Shadows is returning as a sequel series

It seems even a fairly crap Johnny Depp movie was not enough to kill off the immortal vampire Barnabas Collins.

According to Deadline, Dark Shadows is set to rise again at the CW, the network teaming with Warner Bros. Television for a sequel series, Dark Shadows: Reincarnation, with Revenge and Ghost Whisperer writer-producer Mark B. Perry set to write the pilot.

While Dark Shadows reboots have been attempted several times—including as a short-lived 1991 NBC series, a 2004 WB series that never went past a pilot, and, of course, as Tim Burton’s poorly-received 2012 film—this take will differ in that it will maintain the original show’s continuity. Because if there’s one thing the CW’s target demographic is fastidious about, it’s the storylines of a 50-year-old gothic soap opera.
