Raising Dion is the latest in the ever-growing genre in which Michael B. Jordan and those closest to him inexplicably grow diverse superpowers. Based on the comic of the same name, the Netflix series sees a single mom trying to raise a young boy who has abruptly gained telekinesis, teleportation, fire projection, indoor fairy lights—just a real indiscriminate hodgepodge of comic book stuff.
It seems some kind of large scale event recently left many people with such abilities, and the government is of course trying to track them down to use for their own gain. This event also appears to have killed young Dion’s father (Jordan, who also produces) in a storm, but that a man-shaped being of pure lightning keeps appearing to the boy heavily suggests that dad’s consciousness is still out there in the clouds—doubtlessly waiting for some weird cosmic thing to endow him and friends/family with powers again.
