Coming off the massive success of his Old Town Road video, director Calmatic is ready to celebrate like his parents are out of town and he knows a guy who can get a big thing of vodka. Deadline reports that the music video maker will make his feature debut with a remake of the 1990 cult comedy House Party.
That film has somehow already turned into a five-film franchise—the fourth, the Tokyo Drift of the series, was the only to not feature original stars Kid ‘n Play—but it seems this iteration will not be part of the original House Party canon. Maverick Carter, who’s producing the new take alongside LeBron James, has said, “This is definitely not a reboot. It’s an entirely new look for a classic movie.” Which kind of sounds exactly like a reboot, but alright.
While it’s unclear whether Kid ‘n/or Play could make some sort of cameo, Carter suggested that musicians are again being eyes for the lead roles. So there’s absolutely no excuse for it not to be Lil Nas X holding a party with Billy Ray Cyrus.
