Netflix is making a live-action One Piece series to hate on

Hellbent on becoming the Disney of anime, Netflix is turning yet another beloved animated property into a live-action bad idea.

Amid the stalled production on their John Cho-led Cowboy Bebop, the company that gave us that dumb Death Note movie has reportedly ordered a ten-episode adaptation of the popular pirate anime One Piece. The story centers on Monkey D. Luffy, a straw hat-wearing lad who eats a magical fruit that gives him rubbery limbs we will now see realized in chilling flesh-and-no-bone.

Perhaps worth noting, though: only the Netflix pick-up is the news here, as this has already been languishing in development since 2017. Which is to say, don’t get too prematurely excited about the possibility of seeing a real, live woman in a bikini.
