Like Roberts Eggers’ last film, his spectacular The Lighthouse, The Northman is a pretty simple, straightforward affair—except for the parts where they crazy and mythological. Have a look with this first trailer for our Eggers-style Hägar the Horrible.
Alexander Skarsgård stars as a viking with a clearly defined mission and mantra: avenge his father, save his mother, and kill Fjölnir. See, back when he was a kid, this Fjölnir fucker (Claes Bang) murdered Skarsgård’s dad, King Ethan Hawke, and apparently took Queen Nicole Kidman and the throne. Fjölnir brought this ripped viking’s wrath upon himself. That’s on Fjölnir.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Willem Dafoe also get in on the vengeance, and since this is set in Iceland, Björk turns up too. It’s not Iceland without Björk, Sigur Rós, or that rotten fish dish that makes people puke from the scent.
Vengeance Viking will get his revenge when The Northman hits theaters April 22.
