In 2000’s Frequency, a magic ham radio lets NYPD detective Jim Caviezel talk to his dead dad (Dennis Quaid) in the past, in the process saving pops and catching a serial killer. It’s an absolutely asinine, absurdly high-concept premise, but one that’s apparently now been broadcast 19 years into its future with the trailer for Don’t Let Go.
David Oyelowo stars as a detective (naturally) whose screw-up brother, sister-in-law, and beloved niece are murdered in a home invasion. Funny thing, though: two weeks later, he gets a call from the niece. She’s calling from the past somehow! so now he’s going to save her and catch the would-be murderers, once again proving that the best detective work is literal magic.
Don’t Let Go will give us some more audio time travel when it hits theaters August 30.
