As Braveheart‘s muddled history lesson taught us, Scotland’s war for independence was hard fought. William Wallace led his ill-prepared soldiers, he was executed, and in the last five minutes, the guy with the leper dad takes over the task of uniting his country, and—yada, yada, yada—they win! And now Netflix is here to fill in the yadas with Outlaw King.
A sequel to the Mel Gibson epic in as much as Venom could be called a Spider-Man 3 successor, the film focuses on the leper-fathered Robert the Bruce and his ultimate success in freeing his country. Re-teaming with authentically-Scottish Hell or High Water director David Mackenzie, Chris Pine stars alongside the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Florence Pugh, and Billy Howle.
We’ll find out whether Bobby Bruce has a catchphrase as hot as “freeeeeeedommmmmm!” when Outlaw King hits select theaters and streaming November 9.
