Once planned as a sprawling, Marvel-style, interconnected blockbuster franchise, Universal’s so-called “Monsterverse” is increasingly becoming something you could cram into a coffin.
After the utter failure of The Mummy and the later success of The Invisible Man, the studio is unsurprisingly leaning into the latter, again teaming with Blumhouse for a modestly budgeted take on one of their classic horror properties.
According to THR, this time it’s going to be a Dracula, with Destroyer and Jennifer’s Body director Karyn Kusama signing on to head up a new take on the iconic vampire. R.I.P.D. and Clash of the Titans writers Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay are writing the script, which is said to place the story in modern times. If he’s a gentleman, Dracula will now flip his phone face-down before dining on blood.
