Emma Stone’s Cruella de Vil movie has a director

I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie managed to make Tonya Harding into a relatively sympathetic protagonist. But can he do the same for a woman obsessed with wearing puppy siblings as a coat? So we’ll find out with Cruella.

Gillespie has reportedly started talks to direct Disney’s latest animation-to-live-action adaptation, a Cruella de Vil movie that, like Maleficent, is meant to give perspective to a classic villain. Sure, Maleficent didn’t want to wear a related batch of young dalmations, but sure. We’ll see what the excuse for that is.

In development for years, the film already has a script commissioned from The Devil Wears Prada screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna back in 2013. Emma Stone is attached to star, America’s new sweetheart ready to put it all on the line to skin some dogs.
