Enter Spider-Ham and Spider-Nicolas-Cage in the positively inspired new Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse trailer

Well, the Lego Movie guys have certainly not lost their talent for bringing a bunch of disconnected universes together for a herky-jerky animated hell of a good time. See for yourself with this rollicking new trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a film that, like pretty much every Phil Lord and Chris Miller property, should not look as fantastically entertaining as it does.

Lord and Miller are merely producing this time, with Lord alone providing the script, but their joyfully go-for-broke fingerprints are all over this thing. The Get Down’s Shameik Moore stars as Miles Morales, a Spider-Man whose universe collides with the universes of several other Spider-Men and Spider-Women. Among them: Jake Johnson’s deadbeat (and Raimi canon!) Peter Parker; Hailee Steinfeld’s Spider-Gwen Stacy; Orange is the New Black’s Kimiko Glenn as the anime-inspired, mech-based Peni Parker; Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir; and, somehow stealing the show from Nic fuckin’ Cage as a brooding, Great Depression-era Spider-Man, John Mulaney as the porcine Spider-Ham—and that’s not even getting into all the great non-Spider cast. It’s voice talent inspired enough to rival Will Arnett’s Batman and Charlie Day’s Blue Spaceman, with eye-catching, stylized visuals to match. Yet, sadly, we can’t just fold Venom into this and call it a day on that.

While Venom hits theaters this weekend, we have to wait until December 14 for this far more intriguing non-Marvel Cinematic Spider-verse.
