Forget it, Jake, it’s Netflix: Chinatown prequel headed to streaming service

Given that the Jack Nicholson-directed sequel The Two Jakes already used up whatever sanctity Chinatown had left after Roman Polanski hightailed it out of extradition territory, there’s no point in bemoaning that Netflix is planning a prequel series. Because they are—and they’ve got a pretty damn impressive team heading it up.

According to Deadline, Netflix has made deals with David Fincher and legendary Chinatown screenwriter Robert Towne to write the pilot for a show about a young Jake Gittes first learning of this area where Chinese immigrants have congregated into a community, then forgetting about it. Fincher is also likely to direct, but that’s not yet part of the deal.
