HBO Max picks up Clone High reboot and Velma origin story, whatever that means

Do you like cartoon teenagers recalled from decades past? HBO Max sure hopes so!

The streamer has reportedly picked up a two-season reboot of MTV cult classic Clone High from creators Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Bill Lawrence. Lord and Miller are writing alongside original writer Erica Rivinoja, who is also serving as showrunner.

HBO Max also gave a ten-episode order for Velma, “which will delve into the origin story of the beloved animated sleuth and member of the Mystery Inc. gang.” It will answer long-held questions like, “Why would Velma have an ‘origin’?” And, “What does that even mean?” And possibly, “What, like she says ‘jinkies’ for the first time? She visits an optometrist? What is the impetus for this?” Mindy Kaling will executive produce and voice Velma.

A series version of Nate Sherman and Nick Vokey’s Fired on Mars short is headed to HBO Max, too. Watching the six-minute original film below, one would never imagine Pete Davidson taking over in the lead role. So you’ll never guess who’s going to star.
