As was inevitable after the success of the re-launched Scream franchise, now fellow mid-’90s, Kevin Williamson-scripted teen horror I Know What You Did Last Summer too is getting a new sequel in the same mold.
According to Deadline, M.F.A. writer Leah McKendrick has come on to pen the follow-up, with Do Revenge writer-director Jennifer Kayton Robinson attached to direct the Sony project.
Though the IKWYDLS franchise has already had two sequels and a series, this will be the first since the original sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, to bring back some original leads. It’s said Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are set to return alongside some new, younger faces who will be confused as to why these two Gen X-ers still keep referring to the summer of 1996 as “last summer.”
