Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard have it out in Jesse Eisenberg’s When You Finish Saving the World trailer

Has it been so long since The Squid and the Whale that now star Jesse Eisenberg has his own independent comedy-drama about a gangling, guitar-playing teenage boy dealing in conflict with his mother? Yes. It turns out, the answer is yes. Here’s the proof in the trailer for When You Finish Saving the World.

Eisenberg’s writing-directing debut sees Finn Wolfhard as a teen streamer whose alternative-inspired folk performances are getting tens of thousands of views. He’s living the Gen Z dream of being modestly famous only to a very select group of people on the internet! But here’s the thing: mom Julianne Moore doesn’t get him! She wishes he was not a moody musician but just a very nice boy—like the very nice boy staying in her domestic abuse shelter. There’s where all the good boys are!

Does Eisenberg’s directorial debut itself deserve as many as 20,000 streamers? We’ll find out January 20.
