The Golden Circle, the second chapter of the Kingsman franchise and the fifth Bridget Jones’s Diary, topped the box office over the weekend. Topping the original Kingsman, the sequel brought in an estimated $39 million, taking down It, which fell to second with about $30 million. The Lego Ninjago Movie debuted below expectations in third with $21 million. American Assassin fell to fourth with $6.3 million, and Home Again held strong to drop only a spot, taking a $3.3 million fifth place.
The coming weekend should prove a more interesting match-up, with the not-entirely-commercial Tom Cruise vehicle American Made coming out against the Flatliners remake. Is either a large enough draw to bring down the current lineup? Does anyone particularly care? So we’ll see!
