Leos Carax is back with only his sixth feature in 37 years. Annette, his followup to 2012’s acclaimed Holy Motors sees Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard as a stand-up comic and opera singer (respectively) whose relationship takes a turn with the arrival of their titular daughter. The musical drama was written by synth art-pop duo Sparks—whose over half-century career is taking a sudden upswing, with an Edgar Wright-directed documentary on the brothers due out this summer. It’s all very promising. This will be the best year for Sparks since the one when we were all drinking them.
