A24 has just given us the first and only reason for Tommy Wiseau and the Academy Awards to be mentioned in the same breath. The indie distributor has just announced a December 8 release date for The Disaster Artist, James Franco’s movie on the making of Wiseau’s notoriously-wretched cult favorite, The Room. That puts the film squarely in awards season—not entirely surprising given its warm reception at SXSW. Sadly, though, with this seemingly positive announcement comes some tragic news as well…
