Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell are reuniting for a series about something we know all to well: that Paul Rudd is so goddamn charming he could convince us to do anything.
The former anchormen are reportedly set to star in a limited series adaptation of The Shrink Next Door, the podcast that told the real-life story of a charismatic celebrity psychiatrist taking over a patient’s life. Rudd will play Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf, who, over the course of his work with Martin “Marty” Markowitz (Ferrell), eventually takes over his longtime client’s home and family business. Rudd’s fellow Wet Hot American Summer camper Michael Showalter is directing.
It’s said the dark comedy “explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative one filled with manipulation, power grabs and dysfunction at its finest.” It also explores the very real concern that Paul Rudd could probably take over any of our homes at any moment, and there’s absolutely no way to stop him, because come on; it’s Paul Rudd.
