Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg has revealed a first look at the new costumes in his superhero sequel—and it looks like the Shazam squad is getting predictably toned down for a likely entry into the larger DCEU.
Gone are the original costumes’ vibrant colors and the ultra-puffy muscles that made Zachary Levi and friends look like human neck pillows. In line with the rest of the DCEU’s de-saturated closet, now the colors are muted, the wristbands are ornate and prominent, and there’s some scaley, rubbery pattern work going on. Also, the muscles now look less ridiculous. It used to look like Levi just balled up some old tube socks and shoved them into his jammies, but they seem to have more or less sorted that out. Good job, muscle department.
