
Since 1992, it has adorned walls and hearts as the ultimate symbol of love between pop star and older security guy. Yes: the poster for The Bodyguard, that indelible, purplish image of Kevin Costner heroically cradling Whitney Houston, her head buried in his shoulder.
But it turns out there’s a reason Houston was hiding her face in him. It’s not that she was afraid, nor that Costner definitely wears a really nice cologne. It’s that she isn’t actually Whitney Houston.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, for some reason decided it was time to drop that quarter-century illusion of passion he’s been carrying, saying, “That wasn’t even Whitney, actually. She had gone home and that was her double, and her head was buried into my shoulder, which was appropriate anyway. She was frightened.”
To be clear, the woman in this photograph may or may not always love Kevin Costner. She has never used song to declare one way or the other, and may have fleeting to no love for the star of Field of Dreams.
