The Thing is returning into another gross new form

The movie about a hard-to-kill entity always coming back in new forms is again making a painfully obvious metaphor for itself.

Universal and Blumhouse Productions are reportedly at work on a new version of The Thing—and this one will be the most definitive take yet. Sort of.

See, 1951’s The Thing from Another World and John Carpenter’s 1982 The Thing were based on the John W. Campbell, Jr. novella Who Goes There? (2011’s The Thing was based on getting away with loosely remaking The Thing but calling it a prequel.) But a couple years ago, Campbell’s full-length manuscript was discovered and recently published under the title Frozen Hell. That book will be the basis for this adaptation. And doing this in the Blumhouse on-the-cheap style for a quick buck. That will also be the basis for this adaptation. Mostly that.
