Universal to continue clinging to monstrous roots with Van Helsing reboot

The only Van Helsing we’ll ever recognize, after the guy from Monster Squad

Still determinedly clinging to the goth phase of their ’30s, Universal has set yet another classic monster movie in motion.

With about a dozen other projects about mummies or wolfmen or whatever in the works, the studio has now started development on a movie about Van Helsing, famed Dracula hunter. James Wan is producing, and Julius Avery is set to direct and re-write a script that’s being kept secret. Avery was the saving grace of 2018’s Overlord, though, so his involvement is welcome. Anyone who isn’t Hugh Jackman as steampunk Lorenzo Lamas is not.
