As teased at the end of Venom, the antihero’s second film will see him face off against Carnage, a psychopath who is likewise a dude covered in angry gunk. But Venom facing off against a fellow gunk-man is pretty much exactly like the first movie, so the sequel will add in another antagonist: a screaming woman.
Deadline reports that Sony is following the classic “more villains the better” superhero sequel logic, with Venom 2 introducing Shriek. Like Carnage, Shriek is a murderous psychopath, but instead of being smeared in muck, she’s a mutant able to manipulate sound and bring out one’s darkest urges. (Given how dark and pseudo-grounded Sony seems to want their Spider-Verse, don’t be surprised if she’s re-interpreted as having some kind sci-fi headset or sonic gun or something.) She’s also romantically involved with Carnage, so… Juliette Lewis then?
