Well, Pinocchio is now streaming—unfortunately—and Disney isn’t wasting any time in churning out their next mushed-up remake. This time live-action/CGI meets woman/fish in a new, less animated The Little Mermaid. Here’s the first trailer.
Halle Bailey stars as Ariel, with Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Awkwafina as Scuttle. Like the 1989 classic, this version is a musical, and this teaser gives a first taste of just how beautifully Bailey will sing of her wish to be part of our world of having a full-on human reproductive system. Best of luck to her!
We’ll see how it goes when The Little Mermaid hits theaters May 26, 2023.
