Love and Basketball director Gina Prince-Bythewood has become the latest filmmaker to find that, eventually, all paths lead to a fucking superhero movie. Prince-Bythewood, whose last feature was the well-received 2014 drama Beyond the Lights, has reportedly signed on to direct Silver & Black. That’s the just-announced name of Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off that will team Silver Sable and Black Cat. (The studio apparently didn’t know or didn’t care that Raiders fans have already claimed “silver & black” search results as their own.)
While this is Prince-Bythewood’s first superhero movie, she’s already dipped her toes into the increasingly unavoidable genre: she just finished directing Freeform’s pilot for Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger. And isn’t love, or basketball, the greatest superpower of all?
