2017’s Wonder Woman left us wondering how a sequel would play, given that the film played as far more of a two-hander between Gal Gadot’s Diana and Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor than a true solo adventure—and, you know, he died at the end of that. This first trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 has the answer: Steve is back somehow, and now he’s the fish out of water!
Truly no one remains dead in comics, not even this guy who’s just some guy.
Anyway, it seems the big bad in this one is The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal’s Max Lord, a businessman who’s conned his way into power (timely!), and who in the comics has ranged from being a smug pawn, to a ruthless superhero killer, to a victim of Wonder Woman snapping his neck. He’ll reportedly be joined by Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah, who, judging by this first preview, is going all-the-way Michelle Pfeiffer in her pre-cat-villain portrayal.
Wonder Woman will answer for why she only helped with World War I and didn’t do shit else to stop wars until her broad-shouldered pantsuit era when WW84 hits theaters June 5.
