Taika Waititi’s second Marvel movie and the first to be made from his own screenplay, the film sees Chris Hemsworth’s Thor reunited with Natalie Portman’s Jane—who, until recently, we assumed was doomed to the same underwritten, written-out girlfriend fate of Rachel McAdams’ Whoever She Was in Doctor Strange.
Not the case! In fact, now she’s been given more utility and agency than ever: she’s a Thor too! And now she must help OG Thor fight flatly-lit greenscreen scenes, some pretty lazy gags, and Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher—perhaps the first bald, pallid man to grossly go after Natalie Portman since Moby.
The rest of us can join Gorr and Moby in slobbering over Portman’s new guns when Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters July 8.
