The trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s latest is here, and we’re happy to report that, following Old, the director is still on his bullshit. Yup, he’s remained in his wheelhouse, yet again wringing everything he can out of a high-concept thriller premise that will inevitably snap with a final twist, and we love to see it. No more After Earths or Last Airbenders, my man. Keep on with your hit-or-miss bullshit.
The bullshit this time? A home invasion thing where Dave Bautista and friends interrupt a family’s cabin retreat to force them to make “a horrible decision” that could “prevent the apocalypse.” If they fail to choose, the world will end! But what exactly is the choice? Will the world really end? (The beach did make them old, so there’s some precedent here to trust it.) And, most importantly, if I watch this at home, how often is my dog going to bark at the knocking? Is this a one-knock situation or a lot of coming and going? Can they just prop the door or something?
The answer to all these questions will come when Knock at the Cabin arrives February 3.
