Look, we all hope that Denis Villeneuve’s latest reinvention of an ’80s sci-fi classic is good. But from this trailer, it sure does look drab. They try to lighten it up with a couple misguided quips that hopefully aren’t in the film proper, but yeesh. After David Lynch’s Dune and Jodorowsky’s Dune—and even after the colorful, gorgeous Blade Runner 2049—this looks like a particularly austere take from an already-austere, Nolan-adjacent director. Have some fun in the sandbox of Dune, man!
But again, hopefully it turns out cool! We’ll see in theaters and HBO Max October 22.
