Writer-director Dan Gilroy’s follow-up to Nightcrawler, Roman J. Israel, Esq. sees Denzel Washington again buttoning up his Philadelphia/Ricochet suit to act it up as a passionate lawyer. This time, though, Washington gets to stretch himself just slightly beyond his usual boisterous charisma to play the titular role as both idealistic and on the autism spectrum. Colin Farrell co-stars as man whose intense glare and too-fancy suits tell you he will definitely corrupt our Roman. You can see it play out when Roman J. Israel, Esq. merges in our minds with Bill S. Preston, Esq. when the film hits theaters November 3.
