Disney to continue stretching Muppet brand with spinoff series

Their hand elbow-deep up the Muppet brand, Disney is ready to stretch their fingers a bit.

Since every piece of intellectual property must be expanded into a full universe, the studio has decided to give Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem their own spin-off series. They’ve reportedly just given the green light to The Muppets Mayhem, a Disney+ series that will follow the good Doctor, Animal, Janice, Zoot, Lips, and Floyd Pepper as they record their first studio album. They’re apparently heading the opposite way through The Roots’ actual-group-to-variety-show pipeline.

A Little Late with Lilly Singh’s titular host will co-star as a junior A&R executive tasked with managing the group and their chaos. The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg is working alongside Muppet vets Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes to develop and write what will inevitably be a season-long lie claiming the Electric Mayhem are not dangerously intense drug addicts.

Given the popularity of Grogu, a Muppet Babies reboot has got to be next, right?
