Thirty-two years after Masters of the Universe, everyone’s favorite pageboy space-barbarian prince will at last return to theaters. Sony just announced a December 18, 2019 release date for their long-planned He-Man reboot. Oddly, though, the studio is now actually further from making the movie than they were a year ago.
Back in early 2016, McG was attached to direct the project on the authority that he already knows He-Man’s plight of having an incredibly stupid name. But according to Entertainment Weekly, McG has since left the project. Likewise, while Twilight‘s Kellan Lutz was once taking meetings to star, his involvement also now in question—though it’s claimed “many actors, including A-list talent, are vying for key roles.” And while Thor writer Christopher Yost already brought his talent for writing hulking blonde men to a script back in 2015, now woefully prolific superhero screenwriter David S. Goyer is said to be penning his own draft. Hopefully this new screenplay will capture the nuance of the blue man with the yellow skull head fighting the nearly naked man who rides the terrified tiger monster.
