HBO is doing another Game of Thrones prequel, since everyone still loves that show

A Dunkin’ egg.

With excitement for Game of Thrones at a fever pitch (how will it end!?), HBO is looking to capitalize on that with a new spinoff series.

The network has reportedly started development on an adaptation of Tales of Dunk and Egg, a trilogy of novellas George R. R. Martin wrote back when he still wrote things. The hour-long show will follow the adventures of the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall, and his young squire, future king Aegon “Egg” Targaryen. About time GoT got its Phantom Menace, huh?

While HBO canceled one Game of Thrones prequel they had in development, they’re still shooting for a 2022 release for another: House of the Dragon, a series covering the buildup to the Targaryen civil war. So actually maybe that’s its Phantom Menace?
