Somehow a spin-off built around some late-addition Fast/Furious characters is shaping up to be one of the coolest action films in development. Hobbs and Shaw, the film set to see Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham re-team outside the realm of Vin Diesel’s automobiles, was already sounding pretty cool once Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2 action maestro David Leitch signed on to direct. Now, to give this ninth Fast and/or Furious entry even more unlikely cred, Variety is reporting that Idris Elba has signed on to play its lead antagonist. In summary: the co-director of John Wick is going to have Idris Elba, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham beat the shit out of each other. It should be pretty cool. We’ll find out when Hobbs and Shaw hits theaters this time next year.
