Inconceivable: famous people want to remake The Princess Bride, and Cary Elwes has the perfect response for them

Yesterday, Variety published a lengthy cover story about television legend Norman Lear—but it’s mention of one of his rare movie credits that’s now getting all the attention.

In the piece, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra casually drops the line, “Very famous people whose names I won’t use, but they want to redo The Princess Bride.” (Lear was executive producer on the 1987 classic.)

Much could be said of what a rare, magical, absolutely timeless motion picture director Rob Reiner managed with The Princess Bride, and of what a classic blunder it would be to attempt to replicate it. But the Man in Black himself has already said enough:
