The latest from Green Room and Blue Ruin director Jeremy Saulnier is has swapped out color for brightness, but it’s still just as much rooted in the tense violence of embittered white guys. Hold the Dark sees Westworld‘s Jeffrey Wright as a wolf expert of the Alaskan wilderness. Riley Keough contacts him when, inexplicably, some wolves abduct her son. He can’t really do much about those wolves eating the kid, but father Alexander Skarsgård, returning home from war to Afghanistan his kid canid poo, isn’t too understanding of the situation; he goes nuts on a masked killing spree or something. If only Liam Neeson had killed all these effing wolves with his mini-bar liquor-bottle knuckles. Now we’ll have to deal with the consequences of their survival when Hold the Dark hits Netflix September 28.
