‘Kong’ Also King of Box Office, Turns Out

Topping the box office like a massive gorilla might overtake a skyscraper should he ever be foolishly shipped to Manhattan—if you can somehow imagine such imagery—Kong: Skull Island opened at number one this weekend. The latest King Kong reinvention took in just over $61 million, well behind Godzilla‘s $93.1 million debut but more than enough to take Logan‘s spot on the charts. The Wolverine finale fell to second with $37.9 million, and the persistent Get Out slipped just 25% in its third week to take the next spot with $21 million. With nothing else new in wide release, The Shack and The Lego Batman Movie likewise kept their order as each slipped a spot.

That’s your box office for the weekend of March 10-12. Next weekend: Beauty and the Beast and T2 Trainspotting will fight it out for best seemingly drug-induced rehabilitation story. See you then.
