Kumail Nanjiani goes on a commandeered car escapade—again—in The Lovebirds trailer

In the vein of Date Night, Game Night—really, just about any night that involves comic actors playing couples that accidentally stumble into criminal mischief—here’s The Lovebirds, a movie about a comic actors playing a couple that accidentally stumbles into criminal mischief.

Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani star as the titular lovebirds. One day, a supposed cop commandeers their car (did The Stuber somehow pigeonhole Nanjiani or what?) and uses it to run someone over to death. The two panic and flee the scene when they’re ID’d as the murderers, so they go on the run, fleeing from police as they try to infiltrate some kind of Eyes Wide Shut-style society (and maybe also hillbilly society) to find the real culprit. Nanjiani’s The Big Sick director Michael Showalter is at the helm of this One Crazy Night ride.

While it’s great to see some diversity in the genre, judging by this trailer, you’d probably be just as well appreciating the diversity as in-flight entertainment. But if you’re into it, you can see The Lovebirds on the big screen April 3.
