Latest US Peep Show remake to focus on El Dude Sisters

A US remake of cult comedy favorite Peep Show isn’t a new idea. Since the original’s 2003 debut, Fox has made an abjectly painful pilot starring Johnny Galecki and Josh Meyers, Spike has given it their own shot, and most recently, Starz tried to get inside the minds of a couple deranged American men before likewise dropping it.

But now it seems FX is ready to give it a go, and with a new twist: the El Dude Brothers will now be the El Dudette Sisters.

The news comes straight from Peep Show co-creator Sam Bain, who in a piece he penned for The Guardian revealed, “there is a script in development for a US Peep Show with two female leads. It’s at FX Networks and it will be written by top comedy brain Karey Dornetto.

“Ultimately, the best way of building gender inclusivity into scripts is to get women to write them. I can’t wait to find out what sick and twisted bullshit goes on inside the minds of a pair of female losers.”

Dornetto has a lengthy, respectable résumé in TV comedies, having written for the likes of South Park, Arrested Development, Dog Bites Man, Community, Kroll Show, Red Oaks, Portlandia, and more. As ill advised as a fourth attempt at this remake may be, she’s more qualified to give it a shot than most.

Still, hard not to get the feeling she’s totally, totally fucked.
