The Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening has already tackled the present and the future. Now he’s headed to the past with Disenchantment, a new animated series that takes his iconic comedy and aesthetic (with some new background flourishes) to the fantasy Middle Ages, back before The Simpsons totally jumped the shark, man.
Broad City‘s Abbi Jacobson stars as Bean, the hard-drinking princess who returns to her crumbling kingdom. Eric Andre plays Bean’s personal demon, Luci, and Nat Faxon voices a feisty elf named Elfo. The rest of the cast is filled out by Futurama standbys John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, and David Herman, along with UK comedy ringers Matt Berry, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery.
We’ll see where Groening’s D&D campaign goes when it hits Netflix August 17.
