A paunchy, balding loser and his slicker, handsomer friend go on a wine-tasting journey involving romance, drama, and comedy in: Sideways! But also in this: Under the Eiffel Tower, which is essentially SideVeeps.
Underused Upright Citizens Brigade icon Matt Walsh stars alongside equally-underused Veep costar Reid Scott, the two diverting a French vacation after Walsh’s Stuart makes a pathetic proposal to some friends’ 26-year-old daughter. The tangent leaves them into wine country, where they compete for Judith Godrèche’s vineyard owner, and Stuart continues to make a fool of himself.
Wet Hot American Summer’s David Wain, former SNL cast member Michaela Watkins (Wain’s Wanderlust), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Dylan Gelula, and yet another Veep-er, Gary Cole, fill out the supporting cast. It’s a murderers’ row of comic actors. But if you’re looking for laughs, well, they aren’t really here all that much in this Under the Eiffel Tower trailer.
We’ll see whether these underused ringers will yet be underutilized when the film hits theaters (and, a few days later, on-demand) February 8.
