The Snowman is the latest entry to the familiar “based on the novel from the ongoing series about a pithy-named detective playing cat-and-mouse games with a genius serial killer” genre. But there’s reason to think this may be better than, say, that dismal Alex Cross movie with Tyler Perry.
The film is directed by Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy‘s Tomas Alfredson, with a script from his Tinker writer Peter Straughan, Hossein Amini (Drive, The Wings of the Dove), and Matthew Michael Carnahan (State of Play). Michael Fassbender stars as HARRY HOLE, a detective on the hunt for a killer who’s committed snowman-themed murders on the first snowfall of winter. Apparently that’s his snugglin’ up with some hot chocolate by a fire. Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Chloë Sevigny, Val Kilmer, and J.K. Simmons co-star.
We’ll find out whether Fassbender can nab his Olaf-fetishizing woman-killer when The Snowman arrives October 20.
