Purl is the first of Pixar’s SparkShorts, “a program designed to discover new storytellers, explore new storytelling techniques, and experiment with new production workflows.” From writer-director Kristen Lester, the film tackles the issue of being the only woman in an all-bro workplace. Since femininity is here represented as a cheerful ball of yarn, the intertwined issue of sexual harassment doesn’t really get touched on, but thankfully Pixar’s John Lasseter has already hit on that pretty thoroughly.
