Promising Young Woman writer-director reduced to writing DC’s Zatanna movie

Following the relative success of WandaVision, Warner Bros.’ arbitrary path towards a cohesive DC Extended Universe is veering back toward their magic lady.

According to Variety, the studio has finally found a writer for their long-developing Zatanna movie, hiring Promising Young Woman writer-director Emerald Fennell for the job. Fennell was this year nominated for three BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Academy Awards a piece, and has previously been nominated for Emmys as showrunner on Killing Eve. Honestly, probably better than Batman’s friend in the Halloween USA Deluxe Sexy Magician costume deserves, but if they afford Fennell the absurd amount of creative leeway they’ve lent Zack Snyder, maybe it could also turn out better than it deserves. Let’s just hope she can deal with the inevitably violent outcry should write a scene in which Zatanna puts on some pants.
