Sideways‘ Alexander Payne and Paul Giamatti reuniting for another film about pompous snobbery

Alexander Payne is once again ready to make Paul Giamatti seem like an unbearably pretentious asshole.

According to Deadline, Giamatti will reunite with his Sideways director for The Holdovers, a comedy adjacent to Payne’s prior work (but hopefully not the outrageously poor Downsizing). Giamatti will star as maligned prep-school history teacher who stays on as student supervisor over the school’s 1970 Christmas break. When only one trouble-making 15-year-old stays behind for the vacation, Giamatti forms an unlikely family with him and the school’s head cook—a black woman who recently lost her son in Vietnam. Promisingly, Matt Damon is never shrunken.
