Though we still don’t even know which greased hardbodies Tom Cruise has picked for his volleyball team, his Top Gun sequel has apparently already started shooting. Cruise today revealed a production start on Top Gun: Maverick, the actor tweeting “#Day1” alongside the above promo image. Cruise’s Oblivion helmer Joseph Kosinski is directing the film, and it’s rumored the plot follows fighter pilots facing the way drone technology has changed aerial warfare. Following at least a decade of development that really spit in the face of the whole “need for speed” thing, Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to hit theaters July 12, 2019.
