Don’t let the title treatment fool you: Paradise Hills is not a new novel by Danielle Steel. It’s the feature debut of Disco Inferno writer-director Alice Waddington, with a script co-written by Time Crimes and Colossals Nacho Vigalondo.
A neo-neo-Baroque dystopian sci-fi fairy tale by way of The Prisoner, the film sees Emma Roberts awaken in an idyllic island finishing school of some kind, where matriarch Milla Jovovich sculpts girls in their parents’ image. And if you’re wondering if there’s a dark underbelly to this pristine locale, there most certainly is. You don’t need to be Nancy Drew to figure that out.
Paradise Hills hits theaters and digital November 1.
